Mr Beef and Pizza Menu

I don't think the place is the best food in the world, by any means, but it's not a one star experience! I've been going to Mr. Beef & Pizza for years, close to 20 to be honest, and it's a pretty decent place for pizza, beef, dogs, gyros, etc... The food is about average for the type of restaurant that it is. As for the pizza, it's definately better than cardboard! There's also a party room that's great for kids birthday parties, family parties, team celebrations, etc... We had my daughters first and second birthday parties there and just had our kids' combined birthday parties there this weekend. In the past, our friends have always enjoyed the pizza. Personally, I'm board with pizza at the moment (have a 3 yr old son who would live on it, given the opportunity), so we had lunch by the head for the party. We had Beef, Mostoccolli, potatoe salad, garden salad, mozzeralla sticks, fried mushrooms, onion rings and fresh veggies... we got a TON of compliments on the location and the food. The price, for 45 people to eat, was actually pretty good. The party room has games and plenty of room to set up activities for kids. I'll continue to have my kids parties there as long as they continue to enjoy it and we'll stop by there every now and then because the food is good and the atmosphere is comfortable, regardless of age. Oh, on a side note, they also do what Flukey's used to do with the old cars coming out on the weekends in the summer and they do slot car races over the summer too. Yes, much of that activities are geared towards kids, but that doesn't take away from the fact that it's actually a pretty decent place to grab a dog and cheese fries on a Saturday afternoon if you happen to be in the neighborhood.

I love this place, reasonably priced greasy spoon type food. Just stay away from the pizza and go for their italian sausage or beefs.

I stopped here after an alumni swim meet with 2 of my friends. I'm 5 foot 9, 160 lbs with a ferocious appetite. My one friend is 6 feet tall and weighs about 185 lbs and my other friend is about 5 foot 5 at about 220lbs. You can see, we're heavy eaters. We ordered the Mr. Beef Deluxe deepdish. It sounded appetizing enough. Cheese, green onions, olives, tomatoes, sausage, BACON, etc....how can you not try it? the guy at the register told us it would take about 30 minutes. so while we waited we got ourselves an order of cheese fries to keep us busy. as promised, 30 minutes later, register man comes out with our pizza. sets it down, and the three of us devoured the beauty that sat in front of us. the large, 14 inches if i remember, was plenty to feed three hungry young men. with our stomachs full and pizza pan empty with nothing but uneaten crusts, we realized that for less than 25 bucks, we had a great meal which was well worth the short 30 min wait. of course if you want some great pizza, u should try lou's. but for good pizza at a cheap price to share amongst three fatties, this place does a good job. the interior makes it a fun and relaxing place to sit back and have a nice conversation. added plus cause they serve beer. i mean come on, whats better than pizza and beer after a swim meet?......well, deep dish pizza and beer!

I came here expecting a delicious beef but was very disappointed. I don't get all the fuss. The beef was descent but the lack of spiciness in the hot peppers ruined the whole thing. The beef juice was thick with grease. The fries were good but didn't quite do it for me.

Unfortunately most of my co-workers like coming here, and it's one place we bring our contractors too. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad place to go, there pizza is pretty good but I prefer the Cheesy Italian Beef. Avoid the burgers, there ar much better places for a burger. There burgers are juicy and a good size but they lack flavor, you'll end up putting salt pepper, ketchup whatever just to get it to taste better. People you'll see usually work in the area or they have kids. I recommend it if you have kids. But I don't recommend this place for an every day or even week place.

Solid pizza joint. My husband likes going there when in the area, so I have to go with him. :) Good polish sausage, tasty-tasty pizza by the slice and cheap beer.

  • Patrick W.

Good joint for beef if you're in the area and want some variety from all the other decent beef joints nearby. They probably give you the most meat on your sandwich of all the others, including Buona, Brown's Chicken, Johnnie's, Frankly Yours, etc., and their gravy is above average. The fries are decent, nothing to write home about. Service is quick and friendly, the place is large and always clean, and they have a huge menu, as man cannot live on beef alone. To that end, skip the pizza.

  • Michael B.

Good place for the kids to hang out and get some cardboard pizza and brutal tasting beef sandwiches. Take the time and drive a little further West to Johnnie's for some real beef sandwiches.

Don't come here expecting the food to taste like Mr Beef on Harlem. It is NOTHING like Mr Beef on Harlem. Blah!!

We are only allowed a 30 minute lunch and my office is right around the corner from this place. A few of us come here pretty regularly and have tagged along a couple times. The first time I went was because I had a craving for Gyros. They were very good. The pita was fresh, and the meat was pretty decent. Their fries- I could go either way. They are not my favorite. I have tried their fried shrimp, it's just frozen fried shrimp from what I can tell. It comes with a salad and the last time, it was pretty pathetic; wilted and such. I have ordered their grilled chicken sandwich a few times and it's pretty good. Not a lot of flavor, though. I really order it because its on days I need some protein. I'm almost tempted to put salt on the chicken, but refuse to because thats so bad! :) I would like it if they put some seasoning or marinaded the chicken breasts. I can't complain about the food not being fresh....that is not an issue here (minus the frozen stuff). Their service is good. The food gets prepared pretty quickly and they keep the tables pretty clean. Another plus is they offer a caffeine free diet cola (pepsi)! Not a huge fan of pepsi products, but it's caffeine free and diet, so I can't complain. This is hard to find at any restaurant. Glad they caught on! I'm sure I'll be back soon. Perhaps, I'll try something else next time.

If you are in the mood for a quick lunch this is NOT the place, especially drive thru. I was second in line and it took over 20 minutes to get to the window. Judging by the person's reaction in front of me she had been waiting a long time as well. This is not the first time. I figured the first time must have been a fluke so I tried it again and it's still just as bad. I won't make this mistake a third time.

Mr Beef & Pizza has a lot going for them including way above average Italian beef sandwiches, and beef and sausage combos. Word of warning: if you like your beef juicy, ask for the au jou on the side (which they'll happily do) because otherwise they'll REALLY make it wet. Of course some people like it running down their arm, in which case get it wet. I also recommend the cheese and green peppers. I've had their pizza a couple times, but the rest of the family gets it a lot and it's a solid 7 out of 10. Also, the kids love their kids meals which are a good deal - come with plenty of fries - and come in a little cardboard 1950s car. Speaking of kids: totally family friendly. They've had some excellent magic shows there, completely free. I'm talking 6 or 7 magicians over nearly a couple of hours. It's off to the side in a party room. Again, the kids love that. They also love the video game arcade and the claw that grabs stuffed animals...that sort of thing. It's cheap entertainment for kids 10 and under for sure. Have had a party in the party room too, and it was pretty reasonable with about 50 people getting plenty to eat and beer as well. Final tip: their kiddie spaghetti comes with a good meatball and garlic bread and is very reasonable. For adults who don't have a huge appetite, it's a great buy and they won't card you even if you look over 10yrs old. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you're looking for a good value beef in the Mt Prospect area.

I won't be going here ever again. I live nearby so I've tried many items on their menu over the years. It's just gotten worse up to this point. Most recently I ordered their gyro. This sealed their fate as far as I'm concerned. It appeared as though they just sliced off some raw gyro meat and microwaved it. Seriously, it needs that crispy finish to it. Is that so damn difficult? Undercooked, greasy and appalling! Is their gyro cooker broken? Hey guys, at least finish it on the grill before stuffing it in the pita. The onions seemed like they were recycled from days ago and the tomatoes were disgusting mush. The fries are generous but overly greasy with rancid tasting overused oil. The pizza here is basic and bland. Little Caesar's $5 pizza is a better choice. Need I say more? The beef sandwich though is acceptable. I don't think their staff really care much or they wouldn't serve up what basically amounts to very unappealing food. This place has a prime location yet usually seems quite empty. The dining room is clean but otherwise dull and boring. Go somewhere else.

I've been to Mr. Beef and Pizza before with work friends and had their gyros sandwich and beef - both were just ok - nothing special. In every visit I've experienced extremely sterile, unenthusiastic service from a man and sometimes a woman, who could possibly be the owners. No personality whatsoever as though they could care less if you brought your business there or not. This time I came back due to a Groupon I had bought - $14.00 for a value of up to $31.35. Nice deal, or so I thought at the time of purchase. The deal included an 18" one-topping pizza, an appetizer and four drinks. Well, there were three of us on this particular day and we requested to downgrade the pizza to a 14" in exchange for a second topping, which was green pepper. The man behind the counter (who I presume to be an owner) said this was not an option, which certainly surprised me as a former restaurant manager who has always made adjustments to accommodate customers - especially small ones like this. Anyway, we ordered the popcorn shrimp, our three drinks and an 18" pepperoni and green pepper pizza. I was then charged $5.50 for tax and the extra ingredient, making a total of $19.50 for my Groupon purchase. The fried shrimp was fine, but the pizza was atrocious. I would compare their pizza to something that falls between a pizza chain like Dominos and something you'd find in the frozen section at Jewel. There is nothing signature about their pizza whatsoever and "bland" is even too good of a word to describe it. Their ingredients are cheap and they are also light on the toppings. What is even more disturbing is that the Groupon described their 18" one-topping pizza as an $18.65 value. Would I be pissed if I paid that amount!!! I use Groupon a ton and have never walked away feeling like I've been had, and am instead usually impressed with the savings value. Not in this case. Worst Groupon deal EVER!!!! If you like overpriced sandwiches, quality sufficient pizza, a staff that has zero personality, bad Groupon deals and an interior that looks like a circus stopped by to throw up, then this place is for you. Worst pizza in town! So disappointing when the place even has "Pizza" in their name.

I stopped here out of desperation because I was starving & didn't want typical chain fast food like most places that were in the area. My buddy recommended this place because he's eaten here before & said the food was good. I ordered a cheeseburger, cheese fries & a cup of water, my total was $8 & change. As I waited for my food to come out, I kept looking at my receipt. $4.90 for the burger, $2.50 for the cheese fries, $0 for the water. When my food was ready, I almost laughed when I saw how little food was on the tray. The burger was a 1/3 lb but looked smaller than a quarter pounder from McD's & had no flavor. The cheese fries were good, but you need to use a fork since cheese is poured on the fries & they're a mess to eat. Next time, I would try ordering fries with a side of cheese since the fries were good, but got soggy after a while of sitting in liquid cheese. I was surprised to only see about 7 people in the place on a Friday night, but maybe this is more of a lunch destination. I was a little disappointed at how little food I got for the price I paid, but that's the risk I take for getting a burger at a place that specializes in other things. I'll try some pizza next time if I decide to stop in

It's a really good slice of pizza with pop kinda place. It's got that retro diner feel to it and serves some pretty good pizza. The thin and pan are really good, it's the type of pizza that has thick cheese and sauce that is a bit sweet which is good, sausage here is good too. It's quick and ok on the $$$, for a good treat...the chili cheese fries are really good.

Yay! I'm a fan of their slices. I only met Mr Pizza as I didn't feel like an introduction with Mr beef was necessary. A slice and a draft of MGD for about $6.99 with tax. A large enough slice with tasty sauce and a frozen pint of beer. It was good. Good za slices are hard to come by in this area. Yes there are a number of businesses that sell pizza but not many sell decent slices. Their slices are thin crust with that bread crumb powdered bottom. Pastry type with a nice chew and tasty sauce with a crispy crust. Any slice on hand is a mere $3 dollars. The place would remind you of 70s era diners with pink neon and vinyl booths. The kind of place small children would find intriguing. Speaking of children, this location has a separate party room that could seat forty with arcade classics. One detail not known to the public is that they have a drive-thru. I've eaten in this area for more than a decade and found this out about a week ago. It'd be great if management knew the pluses with using signage.

My favorite beef place of all time. Been coming here for years and nobody does a cheesy beef on garlic bread better than this place. Sorry to say that I don't think I've tried anything else on the menu because the beef is so good. I can say that the pizza does look really good I may have to try a slice next tome.

A tasty time warp. I don't think a single piece of decor has been updated here since it opened and I hope they never change a thing. The food was tasty, the service was fast and friendly and the atmosphere is tough to beat. The only downside would be the cost but my serving was huge. What I found particularly cool was I told the cashier that I had never been here before and I wasn't sure if a gyro was the route I wanted to go - he immediately offered to bring me a few pieces of the gyro meat to see if I liked the taste before ordering. I was surprised and impressed. The menu is pretty large. As you could guess, they're known for their beef (cheesy beef!) and pizza. There are a lot of other choices and not all of them deliciously deep fried. Now that I know this place exists, I want to go back and I want to bring more friends with me when I go.

I'm not giving Mr. Beef & Pizza a low rating for the food being any worse than other beef places. Only food complaint would be their fries (not crispy enough for my taste). My 'beef' (haha) is with the service. It seems those working their drive-thru have never been told that friendliness goes a long way w/customers. I don't expect chit-chat, but even when there are no cars behind me - they move you through as if they are being timed. The girl working it today couldn't muster a 'hello', nor a smile. Again, there was no line & no reason to rush me. This place is WAY over-priced & I see no reason to go back. Plenty of good eats in this area with food that is just as good & friendly faces - which may not be important to others, but it is to this former Mr. Beef customer.

Ate here almost 5 times now and today was the 5th time. Everytime we come here it's just delicious. I had the grilled veggie CCiabatta and my fiance had the chicken ciabatta. I love this place and everything was so flaverfull. I do wish they invented more vegetarian items.

I haven't been here in awhile (used to go quite often years ago). This place does make AMAZING beef sandwiches. When I first started going, I'd get the cheesy beef with hot peppers soggy (the cheddar cheese is like that processed nacho cheese you get at gas stations, still very yummy tho!, the mozzarella cheese is the real stuff)..anywho, huge sandwich not stingy on cheese, peppers or au jus. Really good cheese fries here too. They have large fries and douse them in cheddar cheese (much better than the places that give you 'shoestring fries' and a tiny cup of cheese). I have never tried their pizza, my ex did and he said it was terrible. This was a good 5-6 years ago though...could've changed!

  • Joe C.

It wasn't bad but it was nothing to scream praises of it was average at the least as well as very expensive for what I eat cheesy beef and a slice of pizza the sandwich I could get for 5 bucks anywhere else there atmosphere was a bit dated boots were not new tables and chairs were not new you think charging prices like they are they would at least have a good Center furniture instead of one that is worn out and in need of replacement they probably should try a little harder the girl that takes the orders didn't even say thank you when I paid nor did she say goodbye as I walked right past the registers to leave most places say goodbye and thank you maybe this place is too good to do that and I just don't realize it anyway to get the same before I'll just go somewhere else and save myself five bucks

  • Jess F.

Cheese fries are amazing from here. Hot dogs are good, but stay away from the gyro's. I don't know what kind of meat they use, but it was almost shaved like a bbq pulled pork or something. It was really weird. Not a cheap place either for a ma and pa fast food place.

We are regulars that live down the street. I do agree that prices are high. Cheeseburgers are delicious! Best cheese fries around. I think we keep coming back because every woman that works the drive thru always greets you with a smile and always so nice :)

I've been coming to this place for years. I recommend their pizza slices, pizza puffs, cheeseburgers, jalapeño poppers, and cheese fries. I read some bad reviews about their beefs, but maybe it depends who's in the kitchen. I've always liked those too. Give them a shot and decide for yourself.

  • Bart H.

Went with the sandwich trio, beef was ok, meatball was weak, sausage was the best of the three. Too much cheese overall and a little to greasy for me. However I loved the cheese fries. They are softer than I am sure some like but for me I enjoy when u need a fork because they are so engulfed in the cheese and are a little mushy. Pretty much your typical beef and hamburger place, 50's diner kind of feel. Huge dining area. 2.5 stars would have been my choice but I always like to round up - overall good not great, no Portillos or Johnnies, but better than Buona for sure Side note: my friend has the gyro sandwich and it looked pretty good, he was happy with his

Okay I am obsessed with their pizza and chicken fingers but my god the people are the most miserable and rude people I have ever encountered!! It makes me not even want to go here just because of that! Every time I go through that window I get in a bad mood because they're so fricken rude!! I'm about to eat pizza I should be in a great mood! Smile and say thank you to your customers. It goes a long way!!!!

Mr. Beef has definitely improved a lot since the first time I was there years ago. They have a really good Italian Beef with decent spice. Problem is that it is a bit fatty which leaves a lot more grease on your hands than beefs from other places. Still worth having though.

  • Y.D. K.

Actually, I'd give it a 3.5... Just went there today, got fries, 2 combos, and a large drink. Fries were ok, drink was just another decent self-serve pop, sweetened iced tea, and others - plenty of straws, plastic-ware, napkins (not like the type you can get alot of, which is a requirement when eating Italian beef, combos, etc), etc. When I went, there seemed to be no one around, but a young girl came by and took my order - seems to be just okay-attitude, nothing special as far as Customer Service. I got my food within 3-4 minutes (very not bad). I did carry out - I sampled some fries, and it was HOT, but the fries itself was kinda like smaller steak cut fries, and slightly tasteless. Sam ketchup, and its fine. Combo was good - I ordered it wet and hot. It was wet as I ordered it, but it wasn't hot spicy, but definitely an improvement over Mr Beef on Orleans' hot, which it isn't. Seems to have plenty of seating, a private room with ample space. Its clean and very decent place, though the decor was 50's style, with Miami Vice colors. Eh... Overall its a very decent place, I'll come back for the Italian beef, pizza, dogs and burgers. Oh yeah, lots of parking and a drive-thru is available. Its a very decent place.

Okay so I went here with my 72 yr old mother, my 14 yr old niece and my 6 yr old grandson. I myself am 43. Everyone left full and happy. We ordered the largest thin crust pepperoni pizza on the menu which we got for 1/2 off thanks to an Entertainment Book coupon. It was huge so we did end up taking some home but not as much as you might think. My grandson is a pizza fiend and he ate 10 pieces. (Not a typo). This kid loves pizza. My niece opted for the Italian Beef which looked great and she said was delish. She ordered it dipped with extra gravy on the side but it came dry plus they forgot the gravy. They got us some right away when we went back. She had cheese fries too which I sampled and they were as yummy as any cheese fries I've ever had. Drinks are free refills you get yourself so the kids drank a gallon or so each. Since there are no waitresses you save on tipping so between that and the coupon we got a great deal for four people plus enough pizza leftover for my grandson's dinner. Since the service was slow and our order was wrong I knocked off a star. The lady who took my order at the register looked bored and didn't know how to credit me for the discount so she had to call someone over and seemed irritated for the trouble. She also added an extra order of fries in her confusion over my niece's cheese fry decision but they looked so good we kept them. The parking is ample and easy to access. They have outside seating too and beer on the menu. The decor is cheezy but who cares? It was clean. Good place for kids. My friend gave me her Entertainment Book coupon so I'm going back for sure.

I have been going to Mr. Beef & Pizza for about 15 years or so. Nice, casual place to have a burger or slice of pizza. I really like their pizza-by-the-slice. It has good flavor and texture, very cheesy. Hadn't been there in a long while and went through the drive-thru the other day for a couple of slices of pizza. Was excited to see they now have daily cupcakes. Yum! The Dutch chocolate cupcake with the whipped chocolate buttercream is delicious. Only when I'm on a carb-splurge though. Not for every day. But I did call today to see if they had any chocolate cupcakes left today, as I was craving another one. The last person to buy a cupcake bought their last 5 for the day. Oh well.

I went to a baby shower held in their side party room and immediately booked my husband's 50th bday party here. This may not look off-hand like a good party place but it is AWESOME. Rich, the manager I guess, is about the nicest person I've ever encountered anyplace and was so helpful. They let us arrive 1/2 hour early to decorate and let us hang around an extra 1/2 hour as we trickled out since there wasn't another party afterward. EVERYBODY LOVED THE PIZZA. They served all we could eat along with all the salad we could eat and all the pop we could drink and were completely unstingy, keeping the table loaded with food and drink the whole time we were there and supplying us with tons of leftover boxes to take the extras home!! They were also very unobtrusive as they refilled everything, it was like magic! They allowed us to bring in a TV to play a tribute to my husband. They told me several times that I could leave all of our garbage behind, torn wrapping paper, used dishes and decorations (how many times will you use those 50 year old decorations??) etc. They allowed us to bring in our own bday cake and supplied free coffee, cups, and serving ware. The serving tables were all covered and had table skirts. Plus, when they new the amount of people we would have, they had the tables prepared with appropriate seating. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a casual party for 50 or fewer people (we had about 45. It was a LITTLE tight, but there is an additional sitting area attached to the main party room. There is a stage where they put the serving tables that still has plenty of area for someone to stand and MC (we even crowded about 20 guys up there for a little contest of sorts). Plus the food is genuinely good and ALL the servers and employees we encountered were friendly and helpful. Finally, THE PRICE IS RIGHT!!!!!!

My beef was just okay and my fries were 50/50 -- 50% of them were done and 50% of them weren't. I won't be back.

The food, portion and prices I am not to crazy about. Let me get the story from the begining... Well I was waiting in line and the guy in frontof me ordered two packs of friest and a beef special. He spent around $20 on that... I spent about $10 for Italian beef, small fries, and NO drink. They also charge you for the gardedas. I tried the italian beef and it was probably the most flavorless thing I have ever tasted. Italian beef is very flavorful and this tasted like they dipped it in hot water then hot oil. I also was not to crazy about the portion either.. It was the size of a TI-84 calculator with little beef in it. The fries seemed like your average cheap frozen fries. Thus the fries were over priced. The small carton didn't help either and the flavor of the fries weren't amazing. I would probably not come here again because it is a waste of money. I generally don't say "waste of money" but this place is geuinely wasting your money. I recomend you go a distance and go to Mr. Pubs (Near the first McDonald) if you are just looking for good food.

Won't go back! Items ordered: 2 steak sandwiches, a gravy bread and fries. My steak sandwich had Nothing, nothing on it, no lettuce, tomato, etc. That would not really be so terrible if it were a good steak sandwich. It was thin and the meat was low quality and/or borderline on freshness. My companion got the same thing, only on garlic bread. I think that made his a tad better than mine. No sauce on the side, just bread and meat and no good meat at that! Fries- good. Gravy bread good. I was hopeful this was like the Mr. Beef (On Harlem) that serves a kick-ass steak sandwich. Sadly, it is not!

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
